Duke of Edinburgh, Scout, Guide and Youth Expeditions

The Augustine Camino is highly suitable for young people looking for somewhere to complete their Bronze or Silver DofE expeditions or the Scout or Guide equivalents (Gold, Platinum or Diamond Chief Scout’s Award or the Queen’s Guide Award) in Kent.

There are campsites or bunkhouses available at the end of each day’s walking, permission can even be requested for camping at Aylesford Priory. The distances average ten miles a day over rural countryside or forest which is always within easy reach of public transport and the road network. Pilgrimage provides an interesting purpose for the expedition with lots of cultural history to learn, pilgrim stamps to collect and Kent’s beautiful countryside to appreciate. The path passes through vineyards, hop gardens, orchards and a number of local nature reserves.

Suggested itineraries include Canterbury to Ramsgate over two days with a night spent camping at Preston (near Stourmouth) or Aylesford Priory to Faversham over three days with camping at Cold Blow and Palace Farm Doddington. Two or three day expeditions are possible ending at Canterbury with stops at Palace Farm Doddington and Brenley Farm Boughton.
